Ashley ready to sell Newcastle

Cape Town - Newcastle United is up for sale after owner Mike Ashley signaled his intention to bring an end to his time on Tyneside.

The Telegraph report that Mike Ashley is looking to sell Newcastle United and increase his stake in Scottish side Rangers.

Ashley, who bought the club in 2007 for £134 million, is looking to explore the opportunities at Rangers and as a result is willing to cash in his shares in Newcastle.

Ashley has not enjoyed a care free stay at Newcastle and has clashed with fans several times over his conduct at the club.

Newcastle has been put up for sale on two previous occasions under the Ashley regime but was unable find a buyer for the club.

Ashley is believe to want around £230 million for the club, which would include repayment of the £129 million he is owed in the form of interest-free loans.
